This grant supports an analysis of the widening gap between the cultures of American society and its armed forces. Through the collection of quantitative data and subsequent analysis, the project will examine how significant the gap between civilian and military cultures has become and how changes in military culture may be affecting combat effectiveness. The project will result in a series of essays, monographs, and briefings for the press and government officials.
