Francis Gavin will research and write a book on the politics behind the adoption of several major arms control agreements. He will review recently declassified documents in order to assess how nuclear strategies, cold war rivalries, and power politics shaped the Non-Proliferation Treaty, the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, and the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty.
