The project will examine the organizational issues surrounding the U.S. national security policy making process by examining the history of the National Security Act, analyzing how to structure bureaucratic competition and cooperation, and studying crisis management procedures. The project will result in a series of monographs and a book.

This grant supports a collaborative project among scholars at three institutions--Dickinson College, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy -- on issues affecting the U.S. national security policy making process. It will result in a comprehensive history of the National Security Act, a monograph on how to structure and manage competition and cooperation among the armed services, and a monograph on how to structure crisis management procedures in the interagency process.
