This grant supports the research and writing of a book on the ethnic and geopolitical conditions in the western brlands of China. The project will compare the conditions during China's post-World War II transformation into a Communist, multinational state with the current dynamics that govern Chinese foreign policy and, specifically, its policy with regard to testern borderland of Xinjiang.
