Comment: The Second Nuclear Age
This grant supports the research and writing of a book on the role of nuclear weapons in post-cold war international politics. It will analyze the character of the emerging "second nuclear age," a period in whi nuclear superpowers no longer dominate, and the number of small and medium nuclear powers might increase. The study will examine the implications of these trends for deterrence, offensive-defensive tradeoffs, and crisis stability and will focus on rethinking U.S. nuclear posture and doctrine.
