The Antic Muse I Listen to Right Wing Radio So You Don't Have To, Part II[EXCERPT] Friday's guest host [on the Rush Limbaugh show] was George Mason University professor Walter E. Williams. I do not think it is inappropriate for me to point out that Mr. Williams is black. This is especially relevant in light of the subject he choose to highlight: poll taxes. Mr. Williams supports them. Williams is an economics professor; one wonders if he had studied history if he'd be quite, so, well... ignorant. Historically, of course, poll taxes have been a tool of discrimination. Virginia, home to and, not inconsequentially, funder of GMU, has an especially ugly history in this regard. In 1901, the state constitution was rewritten with the express intent of disenfranchising blacks; the poll tax was among the most effective -- and certainly the most durable -- methods at that state's disposal.
